Bill  To Upgrade COE Ankpa To  Federal University Of Education, Passes  Second Reading

As part of his effort to upgrade the State College of Education, Senator Isah Jibrin, on Tuesday, led the debate on Federal University of Education, Ankpa Kogi state (Establishment, etc.) Bill, 2019.

In a statement by, his Special Adviser to Senator Isah Jibrin (Echocho) Media & Publicity, Mr. Salifu Elijah Idoko said, “the Senator explained that, the College of Education Ankpa have structures and facilities for a less cumbersome take-off.

His words: “Mr President, Distinguished Colleagues, let me proposed that the University will replace by way of upgrade, Kogi State College of Education Ankpa. It is noteworthy that the College has contributed greatly to the manpower development of Kogi State, and Nigeria in general, especially in the teacher education.

According to the statement, “the College runs programmes ranging from certificate, Pre-NCE, NCE (Regular) and NCE (sandwich), among others”.

“Mr President, Distinguished Colleagues, it is a matter of common knowledge that Education is the bedrock of every society, as it is recognized as a pillar of national development. The existence of a sound and robust educational system in any country is predicated on the availability of qualified well trained Teachers to impact the required knowledge on the students.

“Thus, the need to have a strong system in our educational sector that shall continuously ensure well trained Teachers, as it is obtainable in other countries cannot be overemphasized” Echocho stressed.” The statement further said

It should be recalled that Sen Isah Jibrin, in 2019, presented the Bill before the Nigeria Senate for the ‘UPGRADE OF KOGI STATE COLLEGE OF EDUCATION TO FEDERAL UNIVERSITY OF EDUCATION, ANKPA’. the Bill had since enjoyed Senate attention. Today, the Senate President represented by the deputy Senate President, Distinguished Senator Ovie Omo Agege referred the Bill to the Senate Committee on Education and Trust fund and directed that the reports be submitted to the Senate within four (4 weeks).
