Senator Isah Jibrin on Saturday, during the final day Retreat organized for Distinguished members of the Senate Committee on Non-governmental Organizations, Disaspora and Civil Society groups at the Transcorp Hilton Hotel Abuja, assured the leaderships of the Organizations of sustained Senate support.

In a statement on Sunday by Special Adviser to Senator Isah Jibrin (Echocho)
(Media & Publicity) Mr. Salifu Elijah Idoko
said that, the support became imperative due to ineffectiveness in certain departments of government.

According to the statement, CSO should distinguished themselves from been tools in the hands of desperate politicians in order to concentrate on their core objectives of checking Government excesses,

“Senator Isah Jibrin added that CSO should be objective enough to provide support and advice government on her policies where necessary.

“The final day Retreat which drawn heavy Representatives from kogi, Kwara, Lagos, Kaduna, Ondo FCT, etc jointly appealed to Senate Committee on Finance to oversight on what they tagged the new ‘CRUEL’ CAMA laws by Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) on CSOs and NGOs, especially the recent sanction on ENOUGH IS ENOUGH, by the regulatory body.” The statement said

The statement further explained that, Senator Isah Jibrin, in view of the appeal, assured the Organizations that, his Finance Committee will take up their challenges and find convenient ground for an interface with Director General of Commission, in the forms of meeting him for clarifications and possibly expunge certain provisions that may flagrantly work against CSOs and general public.

In his words; “The Committee on Finance don’t have direct supervisory authority on Corporate Affairs Commission in the real sense of it, but we oversight virtually every Organizations that has to do with revenue generation. In this case, we will invite CAC to have an interface with their DG, hopefully we can reach a common ground that will satisfy all parties involved. It is on this note, that I have to thank the Organizations for pointing out this very important observations”

The Parliamentarian, revealed that most policies measures of Government’s Agencies spring up in the public without due consultations from the parliament.” We are here to represent your interests, to speak for you even when some sections of the masses regarded us as anti-people. There are some of these policy measures that are thrown in the market, mostly. We read them on the pages of Newspapers like most of you. They apply executive orders, they don’t consult us before taken on the Masses. At the end we the Representatives bears the brunt from our Constituents. Like the recent Petroleum hike for example, we were not consulted” he lamented.

He assured the Civil Society organizations and NGOs of his Committee’s readiness to always welcome them at all times. He said Nigeria as a developing economy should not create any laws that will inhibit development” Echocho said.

He once again commended the Organizers for a fulfilled Retreat. Assuring them that though they can’t joined them in placards, but they are fully concerned about them.
