Governor Fintiri Commends Northern Governors For Their Effort Towards Security Challenges


A crucial meeting of Governor’s of Nigeria’s Northern region is underway in Kaduna.
Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri is among the Governor’s attending the meeting at a time the region is bedeviled by challenges of underdevelopment and insecurity.
President Muhammadu Buhari who declared the meeting open commended the Northern Governor’s Forum for their efforts to contain the challenges of not only the region, but the nation.

Represented by his Chief of Staff, Professor Ibrahim Gambari, President Buhari regretted the spate of banditry, Kidnapping, Insurgency and other crimes in the region, pointing out that Government will continue to confront those challenges that constitute a threat to the country.

He urged the Forum to use the platform for reflection and dialogue and deliberate frankly on those problems facing the region.
While assuring the Forum of support and cooperation, the President challenged them to ensure stronger collaboration of a security architecture on how best to defeat those challenges.

Chairman of the Northern Governor’s Forum and Governor of Plateau State, Rt.Hon Simon Bako Lalong described the meeting as crucial for the development of the region and what affects them as a people with the heaviest burden of underdevelopment.
He noted that insecurity has become a clock in the wheel of progress in the zone, adding that the forum will not hesitate but continue to engage stakeholders to address the myriad of challenges facing the Northern States.
The chairman who cautioned leaders against hate comments advised that Farmer Herders crisis be addressed with an open mind devoid of sentiments.

Governor Lalong noted that the region has the potential to reverse those negative tendencies and challenged the people to turn the huge population of the North to an advantage.
Host Governor, Nasir El Rufai had earlier stated that the meeting comes at a critical time of the nation’s trying moment and advised that it was not time to trade blames but to unite and confront the common enemy.

There were goodwill messages from the Sultan of Sokoto, the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Arewa consultative Forum and the Northern Elders Forum.
The Inspector General of Police, the Director General of the Department of State Security Services as well as the Minister of Information and Culture and Council of Traditional Rulers are also attending today’s meeting.
